Fried Day or Fri-YAY?!?

When Kyle & I were both working outside the home, I would occasionally plan social events with other couples on Friday nights.  We were exhausted from the long week of work (I was usually late coming home), and then we would need to fight traffic to get to wherever we were meeting folks, we’d show up late and usually would fight with each other on the way … it was never a pleasant way to end the week!

Kyle, who really didn’t like the social events anyway, decided that we needed to stop making plans with people on Friday evenings.  I could plan social events on Saturday or Sunday – or occasionally during the week, but Friday evenings were our date night – just the two of us!

Back when we were getting Blue Apron on a weekly basis, we would plan for the food to arrive on Thursday so we could cook our meal together on Friday night.  First of all, this was a much cheaper alternative to eating out.  And second, we were able to really communicate and talk with each other over the meal prep and dinner.  I married a genius!

Friday Night Jam Session

Part of our date night fun was the music that we listened to. Initially, when we started this time together, we would listen to music via Spotify. Now we listen via Amazon Music. The cool thing with these streaming services (that we don’t pay extra for – because we already have Amazon Prime) is that you can search for related artists or they recommend other songs that are similar, so we would spend an evening reminiscing on ‘90s grunge and the next time we’d go through ‘90s and 2000’s hip-hop.

Music is powerful 💪

Music will instantly change the mood in the house.  When I’m cleaning, I like to play “The Greatest Showman” soundtrack, and even mundane tasks are fun again.   If I’m sad, I’ll play for KING & COUNTRY or Zach Williams and suddenly I’ll start to feel better.  Music is so powerful!

Downsizing CDs

When we started packing for our move to NWI, one of the items that I downsized was my CD collection.  After all, we didn’t even have anything in our house that would even play a CD anymore!  But because my car could still play them, I kept 12 CDs in a CD carrier in the car – but the CD cases are now gone.

⛵has a CD-player!

So far, in all my downsizing I’ve never regretted getting rid of anything.  There may be times where I’d think – didn’t I have a shirt that went with this or where did those pants go, but for the most part I was never in want … until Kyle pointed out that the sailboat had a CD player!  At that moment, I instantly regretted getting rid of my CDs!!!

At least I’m grateful that I took a picture before I got rid of them!!!

Rent ‘Em

signed train cd

The good news is that we live close to the Michigan City Public Library and they have 100s – if not 1000s of CDs that we can rent for up to 6 weeks at a time (including a renewal).  They may not have “Love This City” by The Whitlams, the Australian indie rock band that I saw in concert in Sydney in 2000 or my signed copy of “Save Me, San Francisco” by Train but they may have Moby, Garth Brooks, or Better Than Ezra … If not, I can always wait until our next Friday Night Jam session and stream it.

Future Goals

Our long-term project is to replace the whole boat’s electrical system, which includes an electronic upgrade.  And at that time, we’ll also want to get Sirius XM Marine and add their entertainment package for more music and other channels on the water.

In the meantime, we’re enjoying getting to know new artists from our library by renting CDs!
