Notable Places, Experiences & Events

Unfortunately, I forgot our Garmin InReach GPS at home, so we didn’t track the day or our 1st anchoring experience, which is a real bummer because it was the closest we’ve ever been to shore and we would’ve had our route and the depths that we remembered … oh well 😕

The winds were pretty light because we motored the whole way to Stop 24 in Long Beach, IN (just south of Kara’s parents house).

Once we got to the spot we wanted to anchor, Kara took over driving the boat while Kyle went up front to let down the anchor.  Everything went very smooth – we believe that we had perfect weather conditions for our 1st anchoring attempt.  The shallowest depth that we saw on our navigation device was 6’1”, but it was quickly getting shallower.

We were anchored by 11 am.  We used a tree onshore to gauge our movement, and Kyle set the anchor alarm to ensure that we weren’t drifting.  Everything appeared to be set properly.

My sister and her kids joined us on the boat for a floating day on the water.  The water was chilly (likely because we had little sun) so they used my parents paddleboard to come out to the boat.  It worked great!

The girls jumped on and off the boat several times – fortunately, we had snacks, which ALWAYS taste better on the boat … the kids took the paddleboard back to shore, and we pulled up the anchor by 2:30 pm with no issues.

SV Zeke E Boy was home and docked by 3:40 pm.  It was an amazing 1st experience anchoring the boat! 🙌 Another milestone checked off our 2023 goals, and another skill to work on improving with repetition! 👍
